Important Info

HOTEL ACCOMMODATION: If you need to contact us, the name of the hotel is: TRYP GRAN VIA, CALLE GRAN VIA, 25, MADRID, (0034) 91 5221121

EHIC CARD AND PASSPORT:

All boys must have their own European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). You can get it online at ehic.org.uk/Internet/home.do or at most post offices.

Give EHIC cards to Andy Reidel or Steve Price as soon as possible.

All boys need their own PASSPORTS valid for travel within the EU. Give them to Steve Price when you arrive at the airport. Put a sticker on the back of the passport with your son’s name on. We have to collect them in and give them out a few times – it makes things easier.

MOBILE PHONES: The boys must not bring mobile phones with them. Even if asked only to use them under certain circumstances the temptation will be for them to use them anyway or for you to call them. This will lead to problems of homesickness. You have my mobile number if you need to contact us. We have yours if we need to contact you.

MEDICATIONS  - All medications required by your son over the period of the trip should be given to ANDY REIDEL at the airport or before we travel.  Please label the dosage, type of medication and the boy’s name clearly on the container.  Poor travellers should be ‘dosed’ with their normal medication and give some to the staff for the homeward journey (again labelled). Boys who use inhalers should carry their own.  We suggest you give ANDY REIDEL a named spare - just in case he loses his! (Not unheard of!)

SPENDING MONEY - Your son is responsible for the safety of his money throughout the trip. There will be time to get souvenirs at the Santiago Bernabeu and around the city.  We suggest he brings £10 English and £30 in Euros. If he loses money he must report the fact to the staff immediately.

HAND-LUGGAGE - Bring something to read /listen to– walkmans’s and ipods are fine but make sure your name is on it. No PSPs though. Bring some snacks for the flight (a sandwich and fruit) – no sweets or sugary stuff though. Remember they cannot bring drinks through and will have to buy them once through passport control.

CLOTHES FOR TRAVELLING - Travel in the team tracksuit and polo shirt and trainers. The ‘uniform’ allows our staff to identify the boys immediately in a crowd. Bring a woolly hat - it might well be cold in madrid.

THE GAMES

Tuesday 17th Feb v Rayo Majafahonda.  Kick off at 7.00pm. To be confirmed.

Wednesday 18th Feb v Real Madrid. Kick Off at 6.45pm. Meet outside Hotel at 5.00pm to come on the coach (60 Seater). Game played at Real Madrid’s training ground. Cuidad Real Madrid at Valdebebas. See it on Real Madrid website  - home page/Cuidad Real Madrid.

LUGGAGE - Bring one clearly labelled bag/case with a red ribbon attached for easy identification.

This bag/case should be clearly labelled as follows:

BOYS NAME

LIVERPOOL SCHOOLS FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION PARTY,

TRYP GRAN VIA, CALLE GRAN VIA, 25, MADRID

He also requires one more label with his home address for the journey home.

Inside the bag/case there should be:

  1. a smaller bag with all their footy stuff in. They can take it out when we arrive so they don’t have to take the whole case into the changing rooms. It should include:
  • The red playing kit, sweat shirt and rain top - include thermal stuff if you have it as it might cold in Madrid in February, boots (studs and mouldies if you have them) etc. Spare laces, studs and stud-spanner are useful. Our ‘keepers should bring tracksuit bottoms.
  • A sports drinks bottle for refilling – clearly labelled with their own name.
  1. All their other stuff for the hotel – this will be in the case with but separate from the smaller “footy stuff” bag. It should include:
  • Non-football clothes – pj’s, a t-shirt and shorts for relaxing time at the hotel....
  • washing kit, underwear, teddy (?) etc.

Conduct – we don’t expect any of this to happen, but we have to mention it just in case.

The trip should be viewed much as you would view any normal school trip. It just happens we are going to play football. As a result, we are in “Loco Parentis” – which means we are their parents while away. If you are coming to support the team please respect the responsibility we have. Leave the boys to us throughout the day and enjoy yourselves. Under no circumstances should the boys be taken from the party without our permission.

Please remember that parents who attend the tournament are responsible for their own behaviour and that of any friends or family who accompany them. Any insulting, aggressive or abusive behaviour or foul and abusive language by parents, friends or family will result in their boy taking no further part in the games and the possibility that their son will handed over to them. It would then be the parent’s responsibility to collect luggage from the hotel, find accommodation (if necessary) and arrange for travel home.
